Green infrastructure Strategy Ruhr metropolis
The Green infrastructure strategy Ruhr metropolis is to be established as an informal planning instrument for the further development of green infrastructure in the Ruhr area.
The Ruhr Regional Association has developed Germany's first regional Green infrastructure strategy with the involvement of 250 experts from the fields of planning, science and practice. It was adopted by the Ruhr Parliament in March 2024. The strategy offers a practice-oriented foundation consisting of five guiding themes, 27 objectives, various implementation options and planning instruments for the entire Ruhr region.
The Green Infrastructure Strategy addresses current, key social issues: How do we adapt our cities to heat and extreme weather events? How will we move, feed, and recreate ourselves in the future? A key answer to these pressing challenges is the expansion of green infrastructure. The aim is to develop the Ruhr metropolis into a climate-adapted and liveable region and to provide new impetus for current challenges such as climate change and biodiversity.
The strategy in English makes it possible to present the ideas, plans and projects for green infrastructure in the Ruhr region at an international level and promotes exchange and cooperation with the RVR's partner regions.
